THE EMPIREJCUP. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, August 3. The Daily Mail confirms tne winning Australian scores for the Empire Cup. The fine shooting of the Australians is the outstanding feature, and the New •.South Wales record ,of four places in the first seven is truly a wonderful performance. The leading scores were : Granville (New South Wales), 810; Langport, 812, North London, 810; Young (New South Wales), 803; Hull, 795; Peakhill (New South Wales), 794; Queanbeyan (New South Wales), 792; Durban Light Infantry, 790; Natal Carbineers, 789; Queen's Edinburgh Rides, 786; Port Augusta (South Australia), 786; Gunnedah (New South Wales), 781. GUARDS v. RIFLES. SOME FIXE SHOOTING. The Taranaki Guards, and Rifles met in a friendly match on Thursday afternoon on the local range. The match was really two competitions in one-tone" match of eight men on each side and the other of twelve men a side. Both matches were won by the Guards, the 12-man shoot by 19 points, iar\d the 8man shoot by the small margin of two points. The weather conditions being favorable, some excellent scores were registered. The shooting in the eight men a side match was a record for Tara-1 naki for sixteen men. The Guards' eight men averaged 97 a man, while the Rifles averaged 96.6. Possibles were, made at 200 yards by Color-Sergt. Hartnell (Guards) and Private Marett (Rifles), and at 500 yards by Private Hill (Guards). Private Marett holds the post of honor with 103 out of a possible 105. Private Read (Rifles), a young shot, registered 101, while other excellent scores were registered by Private Riddle and Corporal Bruce, viz., 100 each, and Private Blanchett 99 each, Private Blanchett 99, and Color-Sergt.
