FIRE CAUSES STAMPEDE
A TERRIBLE RUSH. FIVE WORKMEN SUFFOCATED. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received August 1, 5.5- p.m. London, Augu&t 1. The electric light wire fused and set fire to the windows of a drapery shop at Accrington premises, which were crowded, and the building was soon ablaze. There was a terrible rush to the doors. Five women were- suffocated,, three of them being! assistants and two customers. The retreat from the upper storey was cut off through the main stairway treating. The damage is estimated at £2O/XKJ sterling.
