PRISONERS ARMED BY STEALTH. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Lisbon, July 31. A hundred prisoners, mostly brigands and smugglers, attempted to escape from prison at Tuentisanta, in i Portugal. Their comrades bribed the 'gaolers to introduce revolvers, files 'and dynamite cartridges. The explosion of the latter brought the civil guard to the scene, and a stubborn fight ensued. Twenty prisoners were wounded, and nine escaped, but the rest were re'captured, after the fire hose had been turned upon them.
