DISTRICT NEWS.
KORITO. (From Our Own Correspondent.} Arbor Day was celebrated by tree planting at the school Upon the invitation of the commitee, several parents and children turned out with shrubs, ornamental trees, and flower plants. Although the day was wet, a lot of good work was put in, and willing 'hands have since been hard at work at clearing around shrubs, trimming hedges, repairing fences, and painting gates, etc. ihe grounds have an excellent appearance, and although the inspector's annual report was a good one, the committee seems determined to improve upon it next vear.
I hear there are likely to be a- few changes in the district. Mr. H. Olson has let his dairy farm on shares to Mr. 0. Coail, of Ingle wood. It is rumwved that anotlier old settler has also leased his farm to his sons, and intends to live in New Plymouth. Talk of t'he Johnson-Jeffries fight seems to have died away. A much nearer contest is more interesting. I hear that a farmer not a hundred miles from here tried conclusions with aiir other person in town, the result being that the first mentioned contestant returned home with a black eye and a few other evidences of the battle.
The milk supply at the creamery is daily increasing. On the 20th u'lt. smiling faces was the order of the day when the suppliers were paid an additional one penny per pound for butter-fat supplied during the past season.
