The Debating Society was Held oil Wednesday evening last, when there was a large attendance. The programme was a mock parliamentary election, Mr. Currie standing hi the interests of the [Liberal Party and Mr. 0. M. Boldt of the Opposition. Mr. Stibbs "also started" as an Independent, but announced that he found he would be unable, owing to pressure of business, to give sufficient time to the interests of his constituents, and so had decided to retiire from the contest. Mr. Currie opened, followed by Mr. 0. M. Boldt, both candidates being asked numerous questions on important political questions. On a ballot being taken Mr. Boldt was declared elected.
iThe annual social in connection with the Beohabite Lodge was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening. Tlhere was a large attendance of members and friends and also a number of visitors from, the Unity Tent, New Plymouth. Messrs. Spurdle and Allen, representatives of the Druid's Lodge, were also present. A most enjoyable evening was spent, vocal items being rendered by Messrs Bridgemaw, Brereton and Saddler. An address on "Reeliabitism," delivered by Mr. Chatterton, was listened to with interest. Mrs. Bell supplied excellent music.
The telephone has now been installed in till© office of the Borough Council, and is proving a boon to councillors and town clerk alike.
Heavy frosts have been the order during the 'last week. However, the fine weather is drying up the roads and is proving very acceptable.
