PEDIGREE HOLSTEINS.
IMPORTED BY MR. NEWTON KING. Mr. William James, manager ot Newton King's Stud Farm, New Plymouth, who left here last April for America to purchase purebred Holstein cattle, returned by the Mokoia last week bringing three bulls and two heifers, in firstclass condition. The bull that is selected to be the thead of the Taranaiki herd' was sired by a son of the great King Segis, out ot the world-champion caw Grace tfayne 2nd | Homestead, with a butter record of 3<5.55Qb. in seven days. The other bulls are by first-class sires out of dams of butter records 21 to 271b. in seven days. Mr. Jaanes says that well-bred Uolsteins with good results are very dear in America, and that calves ot the best breeds are some times sold at 1000' dollars each. He also says he has visited the best "herds in New York State, Winscoiisin, and Massachusetts, besides other places, and he considers he has seen some of the finest dairy cattle in the world. fflie cattle were shipped on the Mariposa 'from San Francisco t<T Tahiti, and at Tahiti transhipped to the Mokoia. They were purchased in New York and Winscoiisin States, and were fourteen days on the trucks crossing the continent. b
