ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A PREMATURE REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Saturday. R. Swinburn, jockey, who was injured. at the North Canterbury Steeplechase meeting on Thursday, and was reported to have died last night is still alive and the doctors hold out some hopes of Ilia recovery. Swinburn liau an ear torn off and sustained concussion of the brain. His condition is still serious but lie was sMghtly better this morning.
A RAILWAY FATALITY. Wellington, Saturday. A man named Timothy O'Sullivan was killed near Tunmarina last night. He was lying on the railway line »nd was struck by an engine. He had been drinking during the day, and it is presumed went to sleep on the line while proceeding to a settler's residence.
' FOUND DEAD IN BED. Olwistchuroh, Saturday Night | lAn old age pensioner named Thomas Pickering, aged 77 years, residing with relatives, was found dead ini bed this imtorning. He had been suffering from a cold latterly, but had not been under direct medical supervision for some time.
