China is extending the colonisation oi Manchuria and Mongolia, chiefly with settlers from the southern provinces. PLAGUE IN EGYPT. Received July 31, 5.5 p.m., Cairo, July 30. Twenty-.seven national banks have founded a national currency association' at New York under the terms of the emergency currency law. MAIL TRAIN ON FIRE. Received July 31, 5.5 p.m. London, July 30. A French train took fire between Crauil and Pont Saint Maxence, and 200 bags of mails were destroyed.
FRENCH CROPS RUINED. Paris, July 29. The Matin estimates that rain has destroyed one-fifth of the French crops, , and that the loss is two milliards of francsi ( £80,000,000). HOLLAND'S TARIFF. Amsterdam, July 20. The Government having a tariff reform majority in both Houses, is revising the revenue, and partly to enable it to retaliate on other countries. It rs estimated that the reform will yield nearly £1,000,000. AN EGYPTIAN PRINCESS. Paris, July 29. Princess Hassan Rassem Bey, a member of the Khedive's family, fell while bicycling at Evian-les-Bains. An automobile caught her dress and dragged her some distance. Her ribs were broken, and she sustained other injuries.
