On Thursday, 21st inst., I held a clearing sale on account of Messrs Bowie ana Elliott at Kaponga, when early calvers made £7 to £ll ss, later do. £4 5s to £6 los, very late and empty £3 2s 6d to £4, springing heifers £5 10s to £6, in-calf iheifers £4 l'ss, brake £22, store pigs 14s 6d to 21s Gd, yearling steers £2 112s, spring cart harness £ls, sows in farrow £4 to £5, boar £2 7s Gd. Sundries at usual rates.
I On the 22nd at Stratford I held a J clearing sale on account of Mr. T. Webb. 1 There was a large attendance of buyers, but the fact of only a portion of his herd being offered, he keeping back any of the; Ayrshire type, due to Mr. Webb going in solely for that breed, militated against high prices, and values were in favor of buyers. Early calvers made £G to £Bi 10s, later do. £4 to £5 15s, very late and empty £2 7s Od to £3 10s, pedigree Jersey 12% gitineas. At Mr. G. Toppe's sale on tihe 23rd inst., there was a good attendance, and everything sold at excellent prices. Early , calvers made £8 to £l3 12s Gd, later do. £5 7s Od to £7 l'Os, springing heifers ! £4 10s to £5 LOs, yearling heifers £2 [•! 12s, f.m. ewes lis, bay mare £l3, brake! £lO, mower £7 ss, drill £22, gig £l7; I 10s. Sundries sold at usual rates. | At Mr. Bocock's sale at Eltham on 25th inst. there was a fair attendance of buyers. The cows .were a good lot, in good condition, but prices realised were not quite up to late sales. At Mrs. Hamilton's sale at Cardiff on
26th inst. early calvers made £7 to £9 ss, later do. £4 15s to £6 10s, very late and empty £1 15s to £3 10s, empty heifers £3 3s, brake £lB, sow £3; sundries at usual-nates. At Douglas on Monday there was a fair yarding, and bidding was brisk, especially for young cattle, and good prices were realised. Yearling steers made £"2 Is to £2 lis, yearling heifers £2 10s 6d, mixed yearlings £2 Bs, 15-months steers £2 15s to £3, 2-year steers £3 lGs 6d, 2 to 2%-year do. £4 6s, 3-year do. £5 3s, empty 'heifers £2 17s, springing heifers £5 10s to £6, store cows £3 to £3 3s, springing cows up to £B, bulls £2, lambs 10s 6d, f.m. ewes 14s, f.m. do. 13s 6d to lis 7d. At Urenui on the same day there was a very full yarding of all classes ot cattle, the yards 'being taxed to their utmost.j There was a good attendance of buyers | and nearly everything sold at the ham-! mer. Hoi stein £5 15s, late in-calf heifers £3 16s, do. MATTHEWS & BENNETT'S REPORT. Matthews and Bennett, report a good yanlin" of ,cattle at their Inglewood yard's on Wednesday last. Bidding was ■brisk and prices were well maintained, ibein" as follows:—Springing heifers £4 Os f»l to £4 4s, good do. £G to £7, store cows £l. forward do. £3 to £4, hulls £1 to £'2 10s, steers £1 14s £3 Is, sprinp'inc cows £3 10s to £4 os, good do. £4 17s 6d to £7 -7s, empty heifers £3 10s 6d, yearlings 37s Gd to £'2 10s, Jersey heifers £2 14s. At'jVlr. Croot's clearing sale on luesday, the cows, which were rather low in condition, brough from £4 10s to £8 12s fid bull £6 10s; sundries made satisfactory prices. j

proved demand, though prices were unchanged. Choppers sold up to £3 12s, large baconers 44s to 48s, lighter 37s 6d to 42s 6d (equal to 4d per lb), large porkers 34a to 3Gs Gd, smaller 28s to 32s (equal to 4 1 / 2 d to 4%d per lb); large stores 22s to 255, medium 12s to 18s, small 8s to 10s. At Burnside stock market best bullocks made £l2 to £l3 15s, medium £lO 10s to £IT 10s, light £8 to £9 10s, best cows and heifers £9 to £lO 10s, medium £8 to £8 10s, light £6 10s to £7 10s.
Fat sheep —2345 yarded, the built of which were wethers. There was good demand for prime heavy sheep at prices somewhat in sellers' favor, but light weights did not meet with much attention. Heavy wethers 22s to 245, good 19a to 21s, medium 17s to 18s fid, light 14s Gd to 15s Gd, best ewes 16s''to 17s 9d, medium 13s to 15s Gd, light 9s to 12s. Fat lambs —BSO penned, the majority being evidently the fag-end of farmers' lots. The demand waa much the same as last week, and prices showed no quotable c'hange. Best los Gd to 17s 6d, medium 13s Gd to 15s, light lis to 13s. Pigs—22o yarded. There was a fair demand, and prices ruled much the same as last week's. Suckers 6s to Us, slips 13s to 15s, stores 17s to 245, porkers 32s to 38s, light baconers 38s to 4-Us, heavy 50s to 565. WANGANUI.
