Redmond. quoted a special detailed statement wherein Sir George Reid showed the proportion of Australian debt that was invested in reproductive works. He added, in reply to a question, that it was difficult and possibly invidious to compare the debts of the different parts" of the •Empire from the standpoint of reproductiveness, but, tried by this test, Australia in any case would stand very high. He added, in reply to Mr. Kinlock Cooke, that the bulk- of the three and a-quarter millions Australia had expended on immigration was spent on emigration from the Motherland.
