FARMERS' UNION.
■WORKERS' CLAIMS RESISTED. By Telegraph.—Press Associ&tiw. Palmerston North, Last Night. The Wellington Provincial Executive of the 'Fanners' Union met at Palmerstion to-day, Mr. J; G. Wilson presiding. A large amount of correspondence in connection. with the shearers' und shed hands' claims was dealt with, and the meeting favored a dominion award being made for shearers. The demands of the shed hands and cooks, as mode upon the canterbury sheep-owners, were considered and gener-1 ally • condemned, as, owing to the temporary nature of the work and the ernplioymeht of a large amount of inexperienced labor, and a.so to the diverse conditions prevailing, no award ior sued hamdls can give satisfaction or be fair to either owners or workers, and that an award for cooks at shearing, time is not practicable. The Shearers' Accommodation Amendment Bill was also considered, and objections made to several of the clausei as being unnecessary, and which would press unduly on small settlers. The president was empowered to bring the objections against the Bill before the branches of the Union.
