, BALDWIN'S MAHATMA COMPANY. Baldwin's Mohatma Company appeared in the Theatre last night to a large and appreciative audience. A very bright and attractive programme "Was submitted. Dr. Rowe gave a fine series tf tricks of legerdemain, many of Wiiich were new to New Plymouth. Amongst these were the Egyptian Jars, consisting of five empty jars, from which he produced plenty of water. The Astral Hand —a spiritual seance—pleased believers and mystified unbelievers. The old stock tricks were also presented in a new guise. In the second part he gave an interesting expose of the tricks of professional gamblers, illustrating, with the aid of four gentlemen from the audience, that the uninitiated has no chance of winning either at cards or any racecourse game. Madame Mora presented psychological problems of an interesting character, including the knights' tour on the chessboard problem, and other memory feats with cards, numbers, ■ etc., without any apparent collusion with the questioner. Koko, the Japanese lady, gave a pretty and spectacular act, in which flowers and bright apparatus played an important part. Her pictures in colored sand on a large black frame 'were a decided novelty. "The White Mahatma" succeeded in answering nui merous questions, to the delight .<Jnd 1 satisfaction} of the audience. Facts known only to the questioner were correctly stated, while several prophesies have yet to be proved. Mr. Lewis Walker also contributed songs in each part, for which he was encored. His numbers were: "Three for Jack," "Old Squire Bob," "Toreador Song" and "The Trumpeter." Mr. L. Blitz provided appropriate music.
