IN QUEST OF SANCTUARY.
- A BULLOCK'S EXPLOITS. A considerable amount of excitement was caused in Cuba street, Palmerston. on Thursday afternoon (says the Standard) by the vagaries of a bull, wnjcli ■had broken away from others when being driven away from the saleyards. It was another case of too many dogs and too much stockwhip. The animal was a very quiet one, which was fortunate, as large numbers of people quickly congregated to see the fun. which was no fun at all for the poor beast. To get away from tihe dogs and whips it tried to get in anywhere that an opening presented. It first attempted to enter a tea room, but a terrier held the animal at bay until the proprietress slammed the door. The stairway leading to the Employers' Association's* offices presented a haven of retreat, which it quickly seized, mounting the stairs in great style, but making a clatter that fairly startled the occupants of the offices above. The secretary of the Employers' Association happened to be in his office, and he valiantly attacked the beast with a chair, turning it downstairs again. From this the, .bullock crossed, the road and. travelled through, a bicycle shop into tlie Square, from whence it was driven again into Cuba street. Here it took up its quarters in another office. On being induced to leave these premises it joined its mates, which had been brought to the spot, and the excitement then subsided. No damage whatever was done by the animal in the various edifices which it entered.
