EDUCATION DISTRICTS REVISION
-a» WANGAXUI AND TARANAKI BOUNDARIES. Anion.": the Taranaki ■Education Board's remits to the 'Conference of boards is one "that a revision :be made of education district'." The Board discussed the remit briefly Yesterday, it being generally recognised that this district is too small, whilst it was held to be common knowledge that the two adjoining education di«tru ts, Auckland and Wanganui, would be all the better for a reduction of area. A remark was made that Eltham county might be included in the Taranaki district, for the schools there could be administered more conveniently ifroin New Plymouth than from Wanganui. Mr. Cargill, who was formerly a member of the Wanganui Education Board, said that the secession of the Eltham county from Wanganui to this district would not meet the case. The members of the Wa.mganui Board, lie said, were fully cognisant of the difficulties in the carrying out of the scheme of technical education throughout the province of Taranaki owing to its having two education boards, and there was a feeling in favor of passing over the northern ward to be administered by the Taranaki' Board. 'Mr. Morton said he iliad gathered recently that the reduction of the' area of the Wanganui district was more likely to be accomplished by the formation of a new education district, with its centre at Palnierston North. Mr. Cargill remarked that a more likely scheme was the formation or a <>oard alonj the Main Trunk line, comprising port'ion=! of the Wanganui. Auckland and ■Hawke's Bay districts, in which case Palmerston would be absorbed by the Wellington district. The chairman said he would be satisfied if this Board were allowed to administer the old provincial district. Mr. Trimble thought an effort s'lrn'd be made to have the Ohura county included in this district. In forming that country out of the TvYitolno county it had been included in the Auckland district, -which was not in the best interjests of the district, for it was really a .portion of Taranaki, and of no concern :jo Auckland.
