NEW PLYMOUTH LIEDERTAFEL
The first annual smoke concert under the auspices of the New Plymouth Liedertafel was held at St. Mary's Hall last night. There was a large and representative company present. Mr. J. H. Quilliam presided, with Mr. Tom WoodiaKd in the vice-chair. The evening waa devoted principally to song's, recitations, and choruses, and' items by members of the Liedertafel. Viands and smokes were provided ad lib., and the evening was voted a most enjoyable one. The pieces bv the Liedertafel were particularly well sun,and encores were the order of the night. The soloists were in good voice, and for most of the numbers recalls were demanded.

On belnlf of visitors present Mr. Mel)isnnid Ihankel the Liedertafel Societv for the e - mvnble evening thev had spent. Mr. Tom Woodard and Mr. Kchnackenberg responded. The following gentlemen contributed solos:—Messrs. T. Woodard, A. Venle, Anderson, Haslam, Clarke, Johns, and Hooker. Messrs. Ralph Tavlor and Easther rendered comic recitations, both gentlemen having to respond. Mr. Anderson conducted the numbers contributed by the Liedertafe). The piano accompaniments were played by Mr. Hoskin. The customary vote to the chair and the singing of "God Save tlte King" lli, pi-uccsdlai*.
