A London cable states that King jeorge and Queen Alary pay their first visit in the new reign to London on Saturdiiy, when they will visit the London Hospital. Dr. \Y. S. Robertson, A 1.8., Edinburgh, an old Napier boy, leaves that town shortly to join Dr. l'orteous, missionary of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church, in India. Canon A. D. Tupper-Carey, formerly I rector of Lowestoft, and recently ap-l pointed to York Minster, is the mis- 1 sionier who will visit Taranaki .in sep-j tember in connection with the forth-i coming General "Alission to New Zealand. Mr. fisher, Federal Premier, will visit' South Africa for the opening of the Union Parliament. The death occurred at Opaki the other day of one of Alasterton's origi-1 nal settlers, Mrs. Jacob Ala t thews. Deceased, who was seventy-nine years of! age, arrived in Wellington in 'the ship Westminster in 1830. With her faro-' ily she went to Masterton in 1857. where she Iliad resided ever since. Two sons (C. Matthews, of Pongaroa, and A. Matthews, of Opaki). and one daughteri ((Mrs. C. F. Hamilton, of Opaki)" are left. Dr. W. A. Chappie, M.P. for Sterling-1 aliire, in the House of Commons, and formerly of New Zealand, has done a good deal of writing since he took up' residence at Brighton. Cassell's nave, just published a book bv him on "First Principles in the Art of Physical Development." He has finished a second on "Small Holdings in Relation to Lund Taxation," and a third entitled " Notes ind Comments from a Doctor's Practice," is to be published in the autumn.
