CJIAMHKi; OK COMMERCE. (By Telegraph —Own Correspondent.') Stratford, Last Night. The Executive met last night. Present: Messrs. J. Masters (president), W. Kirkwood, ti. Ward, J. McKellar, 8. James, Ji. iUclmrds, W. Young, X. Kiiig, J. ilewitt and \Y. C. Orgill. A circular was received from the X.l. Railway League, asking the co-operation of the Chamber. Mr. Frederic, the Chamber's delegate, will attend the conference. The president reported that he had not yet interviewed the New Plymouth Chamber regarding the alleviation of delay in transit of goods. The president detailed the result of a conversation witili Mr. lludd, manager of the New Plymouth branch 0 £ the Union Steam Ship Company. The president will interview the Vew Plymouth Chamber and endeavor to secure concerted action for the increase of goodshed accommodation. The secretary reported on tne interview with Mr. Armstrong in reference to the railway timetable alterations to Te! Wera, and suggested the following alterations:—Train to leave Te Wera on Tuedays and Saturdays; the train to leave Te Wera about 8.30 and return about 4.30. This would probably not interfere with the carriage ot dairy produce, including cream. He believed the proposed alterations would be acceptable to settlers. —Messrs. Kirkwood and Caffgill wd.l draw up a petition lor circulation among the settlers interested. Mr. Mounsey, of Makahu, wrote asking the Chamber to assist local residents to secure a reduction of the telepnone charges after 5 o'clock each evening, and to secure the issue of postal notes at the Post Office.—The Chamber will interest itself.

The Chamber passed a resolution that fuller details shoud be supplied in all telephone accounts, and that a resolution conveying the opinion be forwarded to the i.Uir.ister and the member for the district. Mr. S. Ward mentioned the matter of translhipment charges at Wellington.— The secretary will communicate with the Wanganui Chamber and with the Lyttelton Harbor Board. The-president will interview the manager of the Union Steam Ship Company at New Plymouth om the question of freight charges reduction. It was slhown that freightage had been raised through competition with the Main Trunk line. Passenger boats had been taken off the run; and though the Harbor Board returns ihad increased, the shipping companies made no reduction.

The Chamber will onfer with the County Council regarding improved methods of access to the Mountain House, Mr. Kirkwood mentioning the necessity of getting the lower path in order. Pathe Frere-s cinem&tographists, haying taken records of Wamganui river scenery and of the flax industry, the Chamber will approach the travelling representative, suggesting the many phases of the dairying industry as a subject full of interest and likely to benefit thus province.

STRATFORD' DAIRY COMPANY. The. report presented at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Stratford Dairy Company yesterday showed that during the year ending 31st May, 1910, 30,556,3221b of milk had been received from 224 suppliers at an average test of 3.83. From this 1,343,2221b (about 600 tons) of butter had been manufactured. It took 22.741b of milk to make lib of butter, the overrun being 14.7. The figures for the previous season were: 28,053,9731b of milk from 222 suppliers, at an average test of 3.87, and 1,281,747 lb (about 55!) tons) of butter were manufactured; 22.231b of milk produced lib of butter, the overrun being 16.1. The butter sold for the season just ended realised £08,013 18s. Th« balance-sheet showed a credit of £4650 2s Id in the working account, which would bring the avera jo paid for butter-fat up to 11.46(1 per lb.

It is expected that tlie railway lines will be laid' as far as the Pohokura station in three days.

The roads in the back country are very bad. Between Pohokura and Whangamomona they are extremely tad, this being due to the carting that has been going on in connection with the 1 railway works.

The semi-finals of the local golf club's championship were played last week, and resulted as follows:—J. Stanford beat N. Black 6 up and 4 to play, and 5. Spence beat D. Uniacke 2 up and 1 to play. . At the meeting of the Toko branch of the Farmers' Union on -Tuesday night Mr. F. J'. Heatley will read a paper on "Herd Testing." The annual meeting of the local Horticultural Society will ibe held next Monday night. The next meeting of the committee of the 'A. and P. Association should be a lengthy one. Mr. Thomas is moving that a committee be set up to report on a utility herd book, and; Mr. J. D. Healy is bringing forward a recommendation that judges of all dairy cattle be instructed to judge on the dairy merits of the animals. The date of the show is likely to cause some discussion, as an autumn show has many adherents. In addition, there is reason to doubt if it will be possible to have the buildings erected and the grounds ready for a spring show.
