ALLEGED BAD TREATMENT AT THE HANDS OF TARANAKI. Falmwston North, Last Night. There was considerable discussion at the Manawatu Union meeting to-night as to the treatment of the representative 'team, which was specialty invited to play Taranaki at Hawera during the Dominion Show. No representative of the Taranaki Union met the team, wfhiich was given very unsuitable accommodation, knocking t'he team up. By way of compensation the secretary of the Hawera Club, understood to be acting for the Taranaki Union, agreed to treat tllie team as the Union's guasts during the time they were at Hawera, by paying ifcheir board, but his action was now repudiated by the Taranaki Union, which required t)he team to pay its own board. The Dominion Show Committee also declined to invite the team to its smoke concert, though it had come up as an attraction to tihe show. It was decided to communicate with the Ta<ranaki Union oil the subject. —— i REFEREES FOR THURSDAY'S MATCHES.. ■Seniors.—iStratford v. Star, at Stratford, 3 p.m., Mr. F. Spurdle. Inglewood seniors and second juniors have forfeited to Tukapa. The latter club sends its first juniors to Inglewood on Thursday. Owing to the bad weather, matches set down, for Saturday in South naki were postponed. The Manaia correspondent of the Hawera Star wirote concerning the postponement of the big match, Wainxate v. Okaiawa: —"Great disappointment was expressed in town witih the action of the executive of tlie Tairanaki 'Rugby Union in postponing tfh'e football fixture on Saturday. The reason given was on account of the bad weather-, but plenty of matches have been played in worse; for instance, in the play-off at Stratford last year, when 'the field was so bad that the officials 'had to get the pools* baled out before starting the game. Football is a winter game, and both players and spectator are prepared to put up with bad weather. A lot of people came into town on purpose to see the match, some' coming from as far. as Eltham and Opu-1 Mike, and it is easy to imagine their disgust at finding the game postponed. I Remarks the reverse of complimentary were passed on the action of the Rugby. Union."
