THE SPANISH OUTRAGE
BOCA'S STATEMENT. AN ANARCHIST'S CRIME. By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright 'Madrid, July 24. Roca, who attempted to assassinate the Spanish ex-Premier, declares that he acted' spontaneously and has no accomplices and does not belong to a secret society. Search in his house shows that the crime was of anarchist origin. I Senor Inglesias, a Socialist, in a recent debate in the Chamber concerning the repression of the outbreak at Barcelona, raised a storm of indignation by iTemarking that an attack on Senor Maura's person would be admissable if necessary to prevent his return to power. Senor Canalejas sternly protested against such incitations, adding that the Government would enforce the law with a heavy hand. Senor Canalejas yesterday referred to that incident and in scathing terms denounced Roca's cowardly act, also eulogising Senor Maura's self-sacrifice while in office. The speech was received with loud cheers except from the Republican Party.
