SUDDEN DEATH
THE INQUEST. An inquest wa's held yesterday afternoon at the Courthouse, before Mr. il. ! S. Fitzherbert, Coroner, touching t-lu; j sudden death of Elizabeth Maud liowell on Sunday night. j Dr. McCleland, who had made a post-, mortem examination, stated that he had' found the body extremely anaemic, and j the heart much smaller than normal,| both sides filled with blood, the walls of | the right heart very thin and of the left heart much thinner than normal. The whole of the heart muscle was soft and friable. The condition of the heart was quite sufficient to account for sudden death, which, in his opinion, was caused by heart failure due to the weakened condition of the heart muscle and accelerated by distension of the stomach. Such a trouble would not be accompanied by sickness. (Mrs. Margaret Mclsaac, of the South road, deposed that the deceased was about thirty years of age, not strong, but always active, and not excitable. Witness and deceased were at the South road church on Sunday night. After the service, after having been for a walk, they stood at witness' gate, when Miss Howell suddenly dropped. They carried her inside the house, and sent for Dr. Wylie, who upon arrival pronounced life extinct. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony.
