WAITARA NEWS.

m A meeting of farmers and townspeople interested in the formation of a ploughing association was held in Mr. Jenkins* mart on Saturday, Mr. J. Rattenbury occupying the chair. It was resolved to form an association to be called "The North Taranaki Ploughing Association," membership fee being fixed ,at 5s per annum. A pro forma committee, consisting of the chairman, Messrs. Jenkins, Tate, George, Foreman, SUelton. Jennins and Rook, was formed for the purpose of canvassing for donations and enrolling members. They are to report at a further meeting to be held on Saturday, August <5. It is expected that the contest will come off towards the latter end of August, and in all probability some £3O or £4O will be given as prize money in four competitions. A study of Shaw Savill's summary of meat exported from Xew Zealand shows that the Waitara works are an easy first in beef output. Wellington shipments top the list with 10,517,8881b5, but this is the product of three works, whilst the amount sent away from Waitara was 8,437,004M)5. These amounts represent only six months' shipments. In 1882 the whole export of meat from the Dominion was 1,707,3281b5, while for the six months ended June 30th of this year no less than 213,701,0081bs left the colony for Home. ■Last year's shipments were the heaviest on record, being 280,773,G981b5, but with another six months to go no doubt the 1010 season will prove a record one. it almost borders on the marvellous where so much stock comes from, but these are cold hard facts that cannot be denied. The Ivy Assemblies are holding another of their successful euchre parties on Wednesday evening. Despite the very unseasonable weather, the milk supply at Waitara Road is very materially on the increase already, early calving being the order of the day. it is expected that the factory will resume daily running some weeks earlier than at any other period of its career. A new boiler has beer, installed at the creamery, and the directors have taken the very wise precaution of having one large enough to cope with pasteurising, which is bound to come.
