HUNTING.
The North Taranaki Hunt held a meet at (Fern Grove, Urenui, I»ke property of the Master (Mr. A. H. Halcombe') on Thursday, but owing to the unfavorable weather there was practi-j cally no hunting. Despite this fact, however, the Hunt had a most enjoyable outiag. The members were hospitably entertained at lunch by Mr. and Mm Halcombe, and in the evening they were the guests of Mr. J. A. Bethune; proprietor of the Urenui Hotel. After an excellent spread a few complimentary speeches were made, the health of Mr.: and Mrs. Halcombe and Mr. and Mrs. Bethune and the ladies being enthusiastically drunk. Cheers were given. Durin'g the evening a committee meeting was held, and it was decided to hold the race meeting a week earlier, if possible, than that previously agreed upon, owing to the date clashing with Marton. A committee consisting of Messrs. J. Smith, W. C. Weston, B. H. Chaney, N. Bewley and A. E. Standish was appointed to go into the matter. Later the members were entertained at a dance promoted by the ladies of Urenui. The next meet takes place on Thursday at Mr. Topliss's farm, Waihi.
