HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hospital ami Charitable Aid Board was lu-lil yesterday. Present: Messrs F. C. J. Bellringer (chnirimui), G. W. Browne, W. Cuttield, M. J. McReynolds, C. Andrews, J. R. Hill, 0. V. Tate, C. O'Sullivan and D. H. McDonald. MEDICAL REPORT. Dr. E. A. Walker, medical superintendent. reported that during the month there had been admitted to the hospital 38 patients, discharged 32, died 2. and there remained in the hospital 311. The isolation black had been open during the entire month, and a period of quarantine had been rendered necessary by the occurrence of a ease of scarletina in the women's ward. OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. Mrs. Bayly, manageress of the Old People's Home, reported that there were now 38 inmates in the institution, of whom 32 were males and G females. There had been one departure, one death and two admissions. Everything was working very satisfactorily, and discipline had been very well maintained. Mrs. Bayly wrote that the only drawback was her necessarily isolated position in the home, and asked to be allowed to have her daughter to live with her. Mrs. Bayly offered to pay a weekly amount to'pay for the child's food.—The Board unanimously acceded to the request. CHARITABLE AID.

Mr. Macßeynolds reported Laving investigated fully the circumstances of the woman, a recipient of charitable aid, in Opunake \yliose case had been before the Board at the April and June meetings. He recommended that the Board continue the allowance of ten shillings a week. —Agreed to. THE NURSING STAFF. Dr. Walker recommended that the salary of Nurse Harris be raised to £SO per annum, and that Nurse McAllum, who had passed her State hospital examination, be placed on the staff at an annual salary of £45. Nurses Turner and Barnitt thanked the Board for their appointment as sisters in the hospital. Nurses Crozier and Treeby forwarded their resignations. Miss Ivy M. Russell (Palmerston North), Miss Minnie Watson (New Plymouth) and Miss Mabel Rice (Bell Block) asked to have their names placed upon the list of probationers.—Acceded to. FINANCE. The Treasury notified that subsidies amounting to *£ IS!) 3s 4d had been remitted to the Board's account. Accounts were passed for payment: Hospital £230 15s sd, charitable aid £9B 5s 7d.
