THE TOTALISATOR.
To the Editor. Sir,—At the Employers' Association meeting on Tuesday night, in speaking against a resolution on the subject of gambling'—which had for its object tht abolition of the total isator—Mr. <O. W. Sole is reported to have remarked that "he thought they need not bother about the totalisator. In the first place, it stayed on the course, and did not tout for business. It didn't dodge about the; streets getting the butcher's boy or the baker's bov to 'put a shilling on.' People who want'the machine went direct; they weren't asked to." Quite true, Sir. During a small domestic squabble one day a lady used much the same argument in recalling some reminiscences of her courtin" days. Haughtily she told her husband that at any rate he could not say that she had run after him. His reply was crushing and abruptly ended the dispute. Said he: "No, my dear, nor does the mouse-trap run after the mouse; but it gathers him in all the same!" Observe the analogy?—l am, etc., SPORT FOR ENJOYMENT.
