The election platform adopted by the new country party aims at promoting settlement under the freehold tenure, railway extension, irrigation, the encouragement of desirable immigration, preferential voting in State and Federal elections to secure representation of majorities. A BELATED ENQUIRY. Received July 21, 0.10 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. In the Legislative Assembly Mr. Prendergast strongly objected to the enquiry in the Richmond accident being postponed for a month when the matter demanded immediate investigation. The Premier agreed with this view, and undertook that the Attorney-Gen-eral should consult the coroner with a view to expediting the enquiry. FEDERAL FINANCE. Received July 21, 0.10 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. Representatives of the Government accept the amendment to the Surplus Revenue Bill providing that amounts deducted from the States to meet the Federal deficit be taken in the second half of the financial year instead of any other part of the year.
