SPEECH BY ADMIRAL POORE. By Cable—Press Association.— Copyright Sydney, July 19. At the Chamber of Commerce banquet. Admiral Poore. replying to th» toast of his health, referred to the Australian navy. Tt was, he said, a'difficult subject for him to speak about. Australia had decided with the Imperial riovevnment on one principle and New Zealand on another, and as Comman-der-in-Chief he had to do the best he could. All he could snv was that both were right. Tn establishing an Australia;! 'now. the fact should clearly be recognised that it must exist as part of the whole service. No portion of the uavv must, consider its duty to exist onlv in the countrv where it has its base. A navy could only exist under one supreme head: otherwise it would repeat the fable of the bundle of sticks, which together could be bent but, not bvnkiui. but separated every . •>;.! i'H 'ivi'Ven.
