BO WROX BROS.' APPEAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association; Christchurch, Last Night. The appeal of Messrs. Bowron Bros, against the decision of Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., in the case Income Tax Department v. Bowron Bros, will be heard in Christchurch on Ist August, before the Chief Justice and Mr. Justice Sim. HENRY-POTTS MISSION. Dunedin, Last Kight. A mission that has been oomliusied in Dunedin during the past three *vceks by Dr. Henry and Mr. Pjtts was brought to a very successful close in the Garrison Hall to-night. Many ware turned away from the closing lasting, which was the sixty-fifth addressed by Dr. Henry here. At the close of a prolonged and enthusiastic Meeting handsome presentations were male to Mr. and Mrs. Potts from the choir, and Mrs. Henry received an inscribed goil witch from'personal workers r.ad the W.O.T.U. During the mission some !)25 decision cards have been handed in. Tt is ad- ! mitted that the church life of. tb-s city has been deeply stirred by the visitors. Dr. and Mrs. Henry leave Dunodin tomorrow for Petone, whire Mr.ai.d Mrs. Potts will join them in conducing their next mission. CAUGHT RED-HANDED. Auckland, Monday. Constable Claydon was informed at' 11 o'clock last night that a suspicious character had entered a house in Eden Crescent. He discovered a man barefooted who bolted and the policeman pursued and overtook him. The man drew a knife but the policeman grappled with and disarmed him. Investigation showed that three houses had been entered. A bundle of clothing was found on the premises where the prisoner was discovered together with a pair of boots and socks. Prisoner, who gave the name of David Tod, was before the court this morning and was remanded.

EXTRAORDINARY AOT OP VANDALISM. Auckland, Monday. An extraordinary act of vandalism was perpertrated at Albert Park during the night. Eleven handsome vases and two small pieces of statuary have been knocked from their pedestals und were found lying on the ground. Four of the vases are more or less damaged, others are hardly injured. The ornaments were part of the valuable Boyd bequest. It is impossible to conceive* tlift object of the act, which is presumably the result of a drunken freak. A CHARGE OF INCEST. Feilding, Monday. At the court this morning Arnold Palenski, of Halcombe, was charged with having committed incest. He wan remanded till Tuesday next, bail being refused. SYNCHRONISING CLOCKS. Christehurch, Monday. Work commenced to-day on a system lof synchronising the city clocks. The I public time pieces are being connected | electrically with the post office clocks. ! DESTITUTE PERSONS ACT. Christehurch. Monday. The question was raised in the S.M. Court this morning whether a sister could be sued under the Destitute Persons Act. After reference to the statute concerned the court decided that although a brother was a near relative within the meaning of the law. a sister vi\s not and the court could ■not milk* a maintenance order against the sister of applicant.
