ATTEMPT TO BLOW UP A HOUSE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night It has just been reported that at Herekino on Sunday, July 10, a dastardly attempt was made to blow up the residence of Mr. Powell, a local County Council member. Shortly after the family retired to rest there was art explosion, and one of the rooms was filled with smoke, and the family heard a horse galloping away. Constable Budd found an empty treacle tin, and a long length of fuse, under Mr. Powell's bedroom. The occurrence is believed to foe the work of the fire fiend who some time ago started fires in the district, but has never been captured.
