TORRENTIAL RAIN A.V.) GALE. VESSELS EXPERIENCE ROUGH TIM! By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, July 18. Torrential rain con :nues since yestarday, with a strong south-east blow. Shipping is sheltering. Received July 18, 8.45 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. The heaviest gale experienced for a long time, with an incessant downpour of rain, is raging and seriously interfering with telegraphic communication, ROUGH SEA RUNNING. Received July 18, 9.15 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. There are no signs of the gale abating. A heavy sea is running all along the coast. Arriving vessels report an extremely rough time. Many are sheltering!. Considerable damage was done in the city by the high wind and flood waters finding their way into houses. The low-lying lands round Marrickville, Kagarah, Rockdale, Tempe, and Randwick were submerged, many residents being compelled to leave their houses. There was a record fall of snow *c *:e Blue Mountains. FERRY SERVICE DISLOCATED. VESSELS DRIFT ASHORE. TRAINS DELAYED BY SNOW. Received July 18, 10.25 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. During the gale the ferry traffic on the harbor was completely dislocated. A number of vessels broke their moorings, one or two drifting ashore. Eighteen inches of snow fell on the mountains. The drifts in places were so deep as to delay the trains, which on arrival in Sydney presented an unusual sight, being covered with snow. THE GALE ABATING. A CUTTER WRECKED. TELEGRAPHIC SERVICES DISORGANISED. Received Julv 19, 0.40 a.m. Sydney, Last Night. The gale is blowing out. The rain has ceased and the floods in the suburbs are subsiding. The cutter Kornet was wrecked at the North Head. The one man aboard was saved. Telegraphic services are generally Sisorganised. Communication with Melbourne and Brisbane is cut off, no news having been received for several hours.
