THE SHEARERS' DISPUTE.
JUDGE SIM AND SHEARERS. MEETING OF PROTEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A meeting convened by representatives of organised labor was held iD Cathedral Square this afternoon, to protest against the attitude of Mr. Justice Sim in the shearers' case. The speakers were A. D. Hart, F. R. Cook, A. Patterson, J. Campbell ana L. R. Wilson. All made strong statements, imputing unfairness and prejudice on the part of the President of the Court, all alleging that he prejudiced the the shearers' case from newspaper reports. The following motion was carried unanimously: "That this meeting expresses its indignation and protest against j the extraordinary action of Mr. .Justice Sim in the recent shearers' dispute before the Arbitration Court, and views with serious alarm his coercive attitude towards the Union; also his prejudicing cases from Press reports, and also his most insulting reference to the shearers' representative." Mr. Hart, who presided, and other speakers, emphatically denied that the Shearers' Union had anything to do with promoting the meeting.
WELLINGTON DISTRICT SHEARERS. Wellington, Last Night. A dispute has arisen between the Wellington Shearers' Union on the one hand, and the employers of the New Zealand Farmers' Union and the Hawke's Bay Sheep-owners' Union on the other. The dispute relates to rates of pay and hours of labor for shearers and shed-hands throughout the Wellington industrial district. The list of employers includes some two thousand farmers. The dispute will come before the Conciliation Council shortly.
