Sir William Hall-Jones has accepted the position of vice-president of ihe Colonial Institute. The King announces that it is his desire that the Prince of Wales snail not receive addresses while he is a cadet.
Rev. G. C. Cruickshank, Home missioTier, has heen on the sick list for some time, and will be unable to take ihe country services arranged for to-mor-row.
An error occurred in our "personal" items yesterday. It was not Mr. J. Ure Murray, but his son, Mr. G. Murray, who was farewelled at Eltham on Tuesday.
Mr. Asquith, Lords Crewe and Xorthcote and other prominent men were present at Sir George Reid's luncneun to Earl Grey, late Governor-General of Canada.
The Royal Humane Society's bronze medal has been awarded to Mr. A. Hardgrave for his bravery and skill displayed in saving life at Te henui during the past summer.
The Rev. J. Hobbs. who has resigned the position of vicar of St. Matthew's. Hastings, after a very long residence there, was on Tuesday evening presented with an illuminated address and a purse of three hundred sovereigns by the parishioners. Mr. George Henry Russell, father of the present Mayor of Greymouth, died yesterday morning, aged 78. He was a much respected pioneer, who was at one time engaged in the development of the saw-milling and gold-mining industries by laying tramways through the Marsden district (says a Press Association telegram). Judge W. E. Rawson, of the Native Land 1 Court, has taken up his duties as judge of the newly-created Wangamii district. Judge Rawson will be resident in Wangamii. Having a resident judge will (says the Herald) supply a much felt want in the district, and greatly facilitate the despatch of native business. His clerk and interpreter. Mr. C. P. Seon, will also reside in Wangamii.
