DAIRY PRODUCE REPORT. Messrs E. Griffiths and Co., New Plymouth, are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated the 11th July, 1910:We are now enjoying a period of fine weather.
Danish: The market is firm and the quotation was raised one kroner yesterday. .Siberian:' The arrivals are small again, but are expected to be heavier next week. French: The last reduction has had the effect of bringing quite a nunnuer of buyers on to this butter, and as at the moment the supply is not equal to the demand, it has been found necessary to advance the price of salted butters 4s all round for next week. Up to the present no change has been made in fresh, but we should not be surprised to see this advance also during the next few (la 3 ' - , ■ 1 ■«.• Australian: The Orsova arrived this week and the boxes were slightly apple tainted, but it had not penetrated into the butter as it did in the two previous Orient boats. This ,; apple taint" coming 'as it does at this season of the year, when many buyers are thinking of trying other kinds of butter, such as Irish, French, Siberian, etc., is having a seni ous effect on the trade, and it is causing many retailers all over the country to I give up using Australian butter, who in the ordinary way would have kept on I buying for some time. It is indeed a pity that the shipping company cannot prevent the odor getting into the chambers where the butter is stored. New Zealand: The market is well cleared and the shipment which is now due per s.s. lonic should make higher prices. The quality this season is keeping up remarkably well, and it is greatly appreciated by buyers. Argentine: There has been no arrival this week, but a few butters that were held in cold store have been sold at slightly higher rates. Cheese.—Canadian: New cheese is now arriving but trade at the moment is slow, as they show poor value when compared with New Zealand. New Zealand: There is a fairly good demand, especially for white, which makes (Id to Is per cwt. more than last week, but there still appears to be a far too abundant supply of colored, which in some cases are offering at Is less than last week.
