GAMBLING AND FIGHTING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the Temperance and Morals Committee of the Methodist Church of New Zealand a icsolution was adopted calling on the Government to introduce legislation providing for the abolition of the totalisator and bookmakers, and for the refusal of the Post Office to carry correspondence for Tattersalls. A resolution was also "dopted protesting against the exhibition of the Reno fight pictures. APPEAL COURT. Wellington, Thursday. In Muir's case the conviction was upheld, the Court holding there was evidence sufficient to convict prisoner botli at common law and under the Crimes i Act.
MEDTCAL PRACTITIONERS BILL. Wellington. Thursdav. A deputation representing the New Zealand hranch of the "British Medical Association waited on the Premier today to urge upon the Government the necessity of passing- the Medical Practitioners Bill. Tt was urged that the profession was anxious to get a satisfactory Registration Bill passed in accord with the conditions in the Old Country and in Australia. At present it was competent for a medical practitioner tfho had been struck off the rolls in England to come to New Zealand and practise here. The Premier said legislation on the linos which the association was submitting was dosirabe. Perhaps after the Bill had been considered by Cabinet an alteration misht he necessary, but generally he would be glad to help the measure through.
