THE ETHICS OF AGITATORS. By Telegraph.—Presv Association. Christchurch, Thursday. The shearers' dispute was before the Arbitration GmrL to-day. The hearing was adjourned at the request of the Union representative pending a conference on the subject of a Dominion aw.ird. A sharp discussion took place between the Judge and Mr. Laraey, the shearers' representative, Mr. Justice iSim saying that he had no right to ask the Court to make an award if he was not prepared to accept it. Christchurch, Last Night.
Mr. Pryor informed a Press reporter to-night that in consequence of the failure of the parties to arrange for a Dominion conference, the matter of the shearers' dispute will come before the Arbitration Court again at 10 a.m. ■ tomorrow. Christchurch, Last Night. Mr. Laraey has cabled to the Australian "Worker," asking that journal to advertise the "stay-away system," as the shearers' court case proved abortive. He states the Dominion Conference failed because the shearers' representatives declined point blank 10 »ign on an undertaking to discuss a price between 17s 6d and 20s per 100, and not t# interfere with shearers accepting the minimum rate fixed by the conference. Mr. Waddell, secretary of the Canterbury Union, is hopeful of an amicable settlement before the opening of the shearing season.
