THE MOKAU BLOCK.

QUESTION BY Mil. OKEY. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Xight. Mr. Okey moves to-morrow that tnere be laid before this House at the earliest opportunity (1) a copy of any mortgages registered against the MokauMohakatino block since June, 190S, and (2) any subsequent mortgages up to the present date. On Wednesday he will ask the Minister of Finance whether it is the intention of the Government to make provision whereby the Advances to Settlers Department will be provided with funds for carrying out the full intention of the Act by lending sums up to £3OOO. Note.—The giving of prefer.*, ence to borrowers of £SOO has greatly inconvenienced many of the larger producers, and instances are known where lands have been divided among members of the family, so that each could get the reduced amount, thus, in a way, evading the intentions of the Department.
