HARBOR BOARD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was held on Monday evening, there being present —Messrs. Stubbs (chairman), Jenkins, Campuell and Spurdle. Mr. \V. T. Jennings, M.P., applied for and was granted leave of absence- during the sitting of Parliament. Messrs. Thos. Borthwick and Sons applied for a renewable lease of the foreshore whereon their wharf is erected.— The chairman advocated, and it was decided, to refer the matter to the Works Committee, to report at next Board meeting. Messrs. Thos. Borthwick and Sens and the New Zealand Shipping Company wrote, asking the Board to take into consideration the placing of a small crane on the wharf to facilitate the loading of cargo, mainly wool, tallow and small goods.—The chairman thought a winch would suit the purpose, as the work only entailed the lifting of cargo some two feet. —Mr. Campbell thought if it meant only a matter of the expenditure of £2OO, the Board should do all possible to facilitate the proposal to make the work convenient, iiad moved that the matter be left in the chairman's hands to deal with.—Seconded by Mr. Spurdle and carried.
. Hutrick and Co. acknowledged receipt of Board's letter re leasing reserve, and congratulated them on promptness in dealing with the matter. S. Brown, Ltd., asked for consideration of the matter of supply of hardwood for wharf extension.
The Marine Department forwarded a copy of the report of Captain Bollans, of the Hinemoa, stating that he was unable to locate the reported shoal patch off Waitara. —It .was decided to »i:iid a copy of the report to the New Zealand Shipping Company. A copy of the new Harbors Bill was forwarded by Mr. Jennings, M.P.
The Auckland Harbor Board wired, asking the Waitara Board's co-operation in objecting to clauses 5, 39 and 54 of the Harbors Act.—lt was resolved to inform the Auckland Harbor Board that this Board found no objectionable features in the clauses referred to. The Nelson Harbor Board forwarded a copy of the cases of short delivery by Harbor Boards, and some other matters.
Mr. C. F. Dowsett forwarded plans for hardwood, concrete, and ferro-concrete wharves, with estimated cost of eacli description, in connection with the proposed extension.—On t the motion of Messrs. Jenkins and Chappell it was resolved that the Works Committee, .with Mr. Spurdle, be empowered to confer with the engineer in reference to cailrng tenders for the work in hardwood.
Accounts amounting to £143 Is 8d were passed for payment. I It was decided to call tenders lor the delivery of 100 yards of boulders to repair fascming. -The chairman reported.that in conversation with Mr. Houghton, of the N.Z. (Shipping Co., the-latter expressed the opinion that- a two-storey wool shed, with a lift, would be more economic in working than one large ground floor. He also said that the guttering needed attention, and the secretary was instructed to have the matter attended to.—No acion was taken in regard to the shed..
