BOROUGH AFFAIRS.
CR. DOCKRILI, AXDTItK IXSPECTOR.
Mr. R. Tippins, borough inspector, writes, anent the remarks of Cr. Doekrill concerning his alleged interference with the execution of his duties:—
"I got Archie Hooker to-day and Bailey, ami took them Clarke in the street by the Post Ollice. Hooker, in the presence of Hagley and myself, told Cr. Clarke just as I reported to the Council, that Cr. Doekrill told him (Hooker), after he had received notice to do away with the cesspit, that he need :iot have Bag ley, the night soil contractor, there at ;ill unless he liked, and that he could bury the stuff in his garden, which, being over a quarter or an acre, was exempt from th > by-law. That wasn't years ago. as Cr. Doekrill told the Council last night. It wasn't two months ago. It was about the end of Bagley's last quarter when he spoke to Hooker about it. As for me having apologised to Cr. Doekrill at any time, I absolutely deny that. 1 proved my case in the Works Committee, that" Mr. Doekrill, then the Mayor, told the town clerk that I was not to sue these four people for dog-tax. and 1 took Cr. Collis to the town clerk's oilice at the time, and the town clerk told Mr. Collis that the Mayor had given those instructions. Probably the town clerk and Mr. Collis remember all about it, and if I'm telling you wrong I've no doubt they'll write to" the paper and tell you so. You see, it is this way. When the town clerk told me I straight to Mr. Collis, ami told him 1 wanted him to come to the town clerk's office for just a few minutes. He was •busy, but he came, and the town clerk told him, in front of me, that the Mayor had said I was not to sue for these dogs. And that was the reason why I put in my claim to the Council for the 14s commission on the four collars. The Council, however, didn't pay it. At that time the Council held a bond from me for £SO to ensure the proper carrying out of my duties as dog-tax collector."
