STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday. V News has been received in Stratford * of the death at Bnenos Ayres of Mrs. D'az, who was well known m the Ngaere aistiiet. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. Whishaw, of Eitham, and Mrs. W. JBU& zard, formerly of Ngaere. At a meeting of the Stratford Domain Board yesterday a resolution was passed requesting the Borough Council to improve Fenton street, so as to nve better access to King Edward - Park. With the pronounced demand for unproved roads from practically all parts of the borough, the' Council will very speedily have to consider the question of a loan.

A fairly sliarp frost was experienced here this morning. Hitherto frosts have have been scarce this season, 'though possibly we are to make up lor the leniency. Thefre seems to be a general opinion among the older settlers that the winters of Stratford are becoming milder, and there are not lacking timm i who hope that this process will continue.

I am sorry to hear that the health of Mr. Jackson, sen., of Te Aroha, father of Messrs. C. and E. Jackson, of Stratford, is causing his many friends considerable anxiety. An attempt is being made to revive cricket here this season. The principal . difficulty in the past has been a ground, ,< none of the domains in the present »tate being fit to play cricket oil, unless the player is prepared to take conßiderablerisks. Ft is impossible for the Domain Board, with its scanty funds, to render help in the way of providing a good " wicket and outfield, and this is another reasion, and not a weak one, why the control of the domains should pass iito ' the hands of the Borough Council. lA match was played here to-day between the Hawera and Stratford Ladies' Golf teams, resulting in a win (for the visitors by (1 games to 3. The scores were as follows, Stratford being mentioned first in oneh instance:—Miss P. Orbell (1) v. Miss McLaren (0); Miss Fulfil (1) v. Mrs. Hawken (0); Miss Orbell (1) v. Miss Hamilton (0); Mies Robinson (0) v. Miss Caplen (1); Miss Davis (0) v. Mrs. Rintell (1); Ml*. Johnston (0) v. Miss Glenn (1); Min Black (0) v. Mrs. Harrison (1); Mrs. ■ Menzies (0) v. Mrs. Bennett (1); Miss Wake (0) v. Miss E. Caplen (1). Totals: Stratford, 3; Hawera, C.
