THE SHEARERS' DISPUTE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchureh, Last Night. In regard to the shearers' dispute, and Mr. Pryor's letter to the Hon. J. A. Millar, Mr. Laracy (secretary of the Shearers' Association) has wired the Minister: —"We agree to hold the conference in Christchurch on Wednesday, in terms of my letter of 'Saturday." Later. Negotiations for the conference on the shearing dispute proved abortive, consequent on the shearers declining to have the rates of shearing discussed at any conference. At a meeting of shearers on Saturday night, addressed by Mr.. Laracy, general secretary of the Shearers' and Woolshed Employees' Association of Workers, he told the meeting that they had the emfoyers beaten, and that they need not expect any great things from the Arbitration Court proceedings here on Thursday. Opinion was generally against shearing for less than 20s. A motion was unanimously agreed to, endorsing the secretary's action in declining a conference unless 20s per 100 was conceded.
