The committee of the National Sailors and Firemen's Union has asked shipowners to co-operate with them in the formation of a conciliation board to deal with various demands, including a sliding scale uniform rate of wages for all ports and a minimum living wage, and a seamen's representative to witness the signing of articles of agreement in order to prevent disputes on the voyage.
