Show, .which opened at Hamilton this week it vas sated that the Pilmma Co ope'ra 'iriL a,ry , Co ™P an y l>«d secured first P»» m each of the elates for eompetition for export butter, and that the points scored by the winner were 03% in one class, and 94 in the other. The manager of the Pihama factory is Mr• j John O'Dea, who had held the position o some years. For several seasons now 1 iliama s butter has been doing well at the leading shows in both Islands, and the company has been one of the most consistent competitors in all parts of the Dominion. It is doubtful if any Taranaki company has competed as consistently and as successfully as this manufacturer on the West Coast of the dairying province. Mr. O'Dea's make lias been giadually coming to the fore. It has gamed prominence in the South Island at the Actional Dairy Show at Palmerston North, and m other competitions. It was very successful at the New Ply mouth Winter Show, and now at Hamilton has won both the export classes. The slaughtering of swin has not been Placed on the same footing as the slaughtering of other stock, and this lias iZen a very sore point with many people for a long time. The matter was mentioned at the Municipal Conference the other day. Mr. E. F. Hemingway (Stratford) moved to abolish this anomaly. He pointed out that for the year endin-o-March 31st, 1909, the percentage of sheep condemned, or partially condemned in the Dominion was 4.20 per 1000, while , the percentage of pigs was 93.80. Mr. J J ' A. ,Nash (Palmerston North), said the matter should 'be . brought prominently before the Government. An eminent , man had told him that out of a shipment lof twenty-five pigs sixteen were con- , demned. Mr. Wilford said the Bill now 2 before Parliament included a clause dealing with the question. The motion was carried unanimously.
