The Duke of Marlborough, speaking at a 'meeting of the Central Emigration Board, said that the Empire must have a larger population in the donnnron oversea in order to meet the growth of the pan-German nation and to combat the development of the yellow races. The progress of scientific emigration was necessarily slow. Of 700 applicants in the year, only 100 stood the board's test. ■"
CANADIAN SCHEMES. London, July 7. A Renter's telegram says that 28,354 free 'homesteads of 100 acres each in north-nvost Cn.nada were taken up in five months, compared with 13.111 in the corresponding period of last year. Seven hundred excursionists are leaving Canada to tour Britain under the auspices of the "Sons of England" Society. Each member nledffes himself to induce one resident of Britain to come to Canada.
OFF FOR VICTORIA. London, July 7. The first three persons -going to Australia, after interviewing Messrs. Mac Kenzie and M<-mi. the Victorian delegate* are practical farmers with capitals of £IOOO, £BOO, and £3OO respectively.
