On the 29th ultimo I held a clearing sale at Kapuni on account of Mr. w. Tait. The cows were a nice lot and in good condition. Early calvers made £6 10s to £8 10s, late do. £4 5s to £6, yearling heifers (Jersey strain) £2 IDs, gig £l9 Ids, a ray £l2, waggon £3O 10s, s.i. level piough £6, Sundries sold at usual rates.

On the 30th ultimo I held a clearing sale at Te Airi on account of Mr. A. Kelly. The cows were a young lot, mostly secon.. and third calvers, and in fair condition. Bidding was brisk throughout.. Early calvers made £6 10s to £9 os, late do, £4 10s to.£G. At Kaponga in Friday there, was a good yarding, with a good demand. Matthews and Bennett report a «ood yarding at their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last. The attendance was good, and a large percentage of the cattle was sold at the following prices:— Empty heifers £3 IDs to £3 13s, springing do. £4 Is to £3 2-s 6d, stores £2 9s to £3 14s, steers £2 TU, in-ealf cows £4 7s to £5, bulls £2 to £4 ss, fat cows £4 2s, spring calvers £0 to £9 10s, springers £5 to £8 ss, calves 29s Cd to £2 libs, f.m. ewes 10s Id to 10s 6d.

Fat lambs—Ordinary freezers made 12s Gd to 14s Gd, a few tegs to 15s Id, light and unfinished tegs to 12s; 193 were passed and butchers took only 40. Fat sheep—Extra prime wethers to 27s 6d, prime 18s to 24s Gd, lighter 14s Id to 17s Gd, extra prime ewes to 21s 7d, prime I 15s Gd to 19s Gd, medium 12s Gd to 15s, aged and light 6s lid to 12s; merino wethers 6s to 6s 3d. Fat cattle—Steers £6 17s N Gd to £lO 2s Gd, extra to £l4 17s (id. heifers £4 to • £8 10s. extra to £lO, cows £4 17s Gd, to £B, extra to £ll 15s (equal to 19s for ordinary to prime beef and to 2fis per 1001b for extra). Prime veal calves made 5s Gd to £3 12s (id, the higher price being for large prime- vcalers. Store cattle—Fifteen to 18-months 40s, two-year steers £3 Gs, three-year steers £7 10s (passed), three-year heifers £4, dry cows 30s to £4. Dairy cows sold well, prices hanging from £4 7s Gd to £8 ss, and extra to £lO 17s Gd. There was a large entry of pigs, and the demand for fats showed an improvement. Choppers sold up to £4; large baconers 42s to 565, smaller 35s to 40s (equal to 4d per lb); large porkers 29s to 38s, small 25s to 28s (equal to 4y 2 d per lb). Stores also sold better, large sorts making 22s to 275, medium 14s to 19s, weaners 5s to 10s Od.
