SUICIDE AT KEEFTON. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Reefton, Yesterday. The young man ..hompson, who attempted suicide on .Vedaesday, diea in the hospital yestei\...y. SUDDEN 'DEATH. A sudden death at Hurleyville was reported to the police (says the Press). It appears that a well-known carrier named Samuel Gould was found dead i n his dwelling on Thursday afternoon. He had been, missed since the previous day, and on investigation being made, Gould was found to be dead. Deceased was well known in Patea, and has been for some time past engaged in carting butter and cheese from dairy factories to the grading works. He -visited Patea early this week, and appeared to be in good health. He was a widoSver, .md leaves a grown-up family. An inquest will be held this afternoon. Gisbprne, Yesterday. 4. Maori named Te Ka,tua Karau was drowned while crossing the Awatere river near Te . Araroa on Saturday evening. A party of three native's were fording the flooded stream. One got across, a second on a small pony was swept away and drowned, while the third had an exciting experience, being swept from his horse, but' he managed to hold on' to the crupper, , and was dragged ashore. . In recovering the body from the surf, several men had narrow ■ escape*.
