FLOODS IN CANTERBURY
A COACH CAPSIZED IX THE RIVER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Saturday. Warm easterly rain yesterday caused a general melting of snow on th;; hills. and the rivers in Canterbury are all in flood this morning. The Kaikoura correspondent of the Star telegraphed that the coach from Kaikoura to Seddon had turned back. The coach to Cheviot attempted to cross the Kahautawa, and capsized. Several passengers got to the bank with difficulty, one horse was drowned, and the coach, with mails aboard, is still in the river. Wellington, Last Night. The postmaster at Kaikoura has advised the Chief Post Office that the Kahautara river is in flood and that the mail coach was overturned whilst attempting to cross yesterday morning. The kingbolt came out and the forecarriage was swept out to sea. One horse was drowned, and an attempt is now being made to recover the coach and mails, whieh are still in the river.
