GIRL BEATEN TO DEATH.
HOUSEKEEPER KILLS CHILD. ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received July 4, 0.40 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. Alice Carton, aged eleven, was beaten to death in a shocking manner with a broom-handle by a housekeeper, a cousin of her father's. The woman subsequently attempted suicide. When she recovered consciousness she stated that she beat the girl for telling untruths, and was distracted when she found the child dead, and then tried to take her own life.
