The announcement of the autumn session has satisfied the extreme Radicals.

In the House of Commons, Mr. LloydGeorge, referring to the proposal for insurance against unemployment for meKt year, said: "If the taxes fulfil the promise and we return to normal naval expenditure, we may sta-rt a scheme twice as liberal as Germany's scheme." Mr. Austen Chamberlain complained that the Chancellor's was a rosy view. Instead of boasting, he had better wait and see permanent results of taxes. Mr. Redmond protested at the retention of increased .spirit duties as unjust and oppressive. He listened with great pleasure to Mr. Asquith's announcement of an autumn session, which was the only crumb of comfort the Nationalists bad had for many weeks. :X Mr. Lloyd-George, replying, said that Ireland, instead of contributing, had received £3,200,000 sterling ■ under the Budget.
