"I want, it left out of the papers," wrote a defendant to the Magistrate in a civil case in Invercargill lost week. Defendant did not appear to defend his case, but his letter implied inability to pay in the meantime. Mr. Cruickshank, Magistrate, remarked that the best way to keep one's name out of the papers was to pay one's debts. Another defendant was very anxious to have his name left out, and agreed to "square up" with plaintiff on the understanding that the payment of his debts would cause his name to be omitted from the papers.
