, REMITS FROM TARANAKI. At its-next meeting the Taranaki Education Board will discuss the following remits, which it is proposed to forward to the< conference of Education Boards to be Jheld in 'Wellington on August 22: (li)' Grants for new schools and additions to schools. The Department should, state definitely the, information requJTed'and the Board shukl be trusted to supply the information. > (2) Payment of grants. Within a given time, say one month, from the date the Board informs the Department that, a contract has been entered into between the Board and the successful tenderer, the Department should hand over to the Board's account the whole of the grant, in the event of the tender amounting to the grant, or such .portion as will cover the tender. '(3) Buildings' maintenance grants.— The Board should be notified at the commencement of each year the amount allocated to the district, and this sum should be paid in equal quarterly instalments. * (4) Teachers' residences.—The Department to make grants enabling the Board to put the present residences in that state of efficiency equal to the amount of the "house allowance" of the grade of the school. (5) Rent of school builds. That ■Boards be empowered to rent buildings for purpose of opening a school in a district when not satisfied that the attendance warrants application being made for a grant for a new school and that the Department pay the rent. (6) Teachers'appointments—That teachers' shall not be. eligible for appointment in a-school in the Dominion unless he nas held.his appointment for one year. '(7) Education districts.—That a revision lie made of education, districts. ! (8) Inspectors' salaries.—That a colonial scale of, salaries be introduced. (9) Licensed any uncertificated teacher who has had ten years' teaching experience shall,. upon 'pas'sing an examination as to his ability in teaching by three inspectors, be entilled to a perpetual license, provided that no such teacher can'be appointed to a school higher than :grade 3i
