Mr. W. A. Ballantyne, Director of Technical ■'Education, reported that the shed for metal worlc in connection with ihe rural classes at the Stratford School had 1 heen'completed at a cost of £3B 13s 6d, arid'a gran,t «f £4O to cover cost of, building.and also.a grant of £4B Is lid for equipment had been sanctioned by the 'Department. The shed was- erected by the Stratford classes under the super'vision of Mr Sandford, and reflects great credit on both the instructor and the pupils. The teachers' Saturday classes resumed'at (New Plymouth and Stratford om 25th fr&t., and an increased 'attendance was reported. The classes in wool-sorting recently established at Stratford and Tdko have almost com- | ,pleted the course of instruction and arrangements had' been' made to open new I classes at Te Wera and Tututawa. Ar- ! rangements were also being made whereby classes, would" later on be started atTarata, Inglewood, Waitara and, Ure-' nuil. and the replies received from tlresß districts give promise of large passes being successfully established. The report was* adopted. RADNOK ROAD. Mr. Rodgers reported on the petition of the Radnor road settlers for the erection of a school in their district. He said the settlers were not in favor of the erection of a small school, as they

believed it would be of greater advantage to have the Denbigh School moved some 30 chains along the Derby road, thus enabling the children from boUl Denbigh and Radnor roads to attend one central school. The attendance at this school would be double what it now is at the Denbigh School, without greatly inconveniencing the children on that road. A loan is being raised for opening up Derby road, and a creamery is to be i erected close to the suggested central I school site. There were 30 children on I the Radnor road, 23 of whom were of; 1 school age and would attend the school' if erected on the central site. At present those children attended either Denbigh or Midhirst schools. The road to the former school was at all time a dangerous one, and simio of the children at the upper end of the road would have: iYs miles to walk to Midhirst. 'lo at-1 tend the Pembroke School two creeks had to be crossed on logs, a dangerous proceeding, especially in the winter. Personally, he thought the idea of moving the Denbigh School into this central position was a wise and good one, and so far as he could see it wQuld not impose any great hardship on the Denbigh road, and there was no fjoubt that _ a school on the Radnor l'oail fl-flil! 1 ! considerably reduce the attendance at th« Denbigh School. Takini.- a'l the facts into consideration one unv.i! school would •be better. The report was r eeivod. APPLICATION FOP. NEW SCHOOL. Mr. R. Chrome, suretary of the Auckland Education Board, forwarded an amplication from M -3. A. M. Von Stunner for the establish..; ent of a school at Waitaanga. He stated that from information received from Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., it appeared that though Waitaanga is within the Auckland education district, the application could be more easily dealt with by the Taranaki Board, owing to the fact that there was no proper track at Waitaanga from the eastern part of Ohura county. In view of' that fact he was directed to ask the Board to be good enough to deal with Mrs. Von Stunner's application. It was resolved that the matter be referred to -the Inspector to enquire into.

TECHNICAL CONTROL.' I Mr. Kennedy, moved, in accordance with notice of motion, that' a committee of the whole Board be set' up to generally control the management of .technical affafrs in this district In moving the resolution he stated that people were-beginning to take more 1 interest in matters, and he thought a general' on the subject would Msist matters; He was first in favor of appointing a sub-committee, but he be■iieved a committee of the whole Board fyould ,be better, sr.Cargill' wasW opposed to subcommittees. He thought all members ,should acquire a knowledge of what ■was going on. It was nice to delegate thje work to a few, but if the other members''were not cognisant of the fact?, ihow could they answer any enquiries on the subject? Mr. Trimble also favored abolishing 'all committees and doing the work in open B/?ard. ' The .motion was carried on a division by 6 'votes' to 2.

► ' ,(>ENiEBAL. A petition wa's received from settlers at Waihi asking 'for the erection of a new school , and teacher's residence. , There were now 52 children on the roll and the present .school was inadequate for the requirements of the district Referred "to the Inspector to enquire into and. report, at neit meeting. ■ 'The.matter of leases which'have expired or aTe about to expire is to be referred to the Reserves' Committee. The action of the Rahotu and Oaomu School .Committees in closing their school* was confirmed. ,An application is to be made to the Land .Board for section 47, Whangamomona township', as an addition to the present school site. The Kaimata School Committee's request is to be 1 taken into consideration when making transfer* of teachers.' Mrs. Stephenson forwarded her resignation as sewing teacher at the Funiho School. The resignation was accepted and the usual'steps will be taken to fill the vacancy. ' I The Wanganui Education Board wrote stating that they were of opinion that| Board secretaries should 1 , attend the pro-] posed conference of representatives of Education Boards. • ' I In reply to a communication from the, Board requesting permission' for members of the Board to make their telephonic communications "collect,"' Mr. W. J. Chaney, Chief Postmaster, stated that 4he regulations did "not permit of this being, done, 'The. practice did obtain in I Wanganui for a time in an unauthorised way, tout had'simce been discontinued, as it was found to Ibe impracticable. He further pointed out that the Board , hvl the, matter- in their own hands by| supplying members with official stamps. ,', The Stratford' School Committee as- j plied for,the appointment of an additional assistant.—lt was resolved thatj the committee be informed that the. Board has received no communication! from the Minister, and that whilst the Act remains as it is they are unable to' appoint another assistant, but that they i 'propose bringing the question 'before the conference of the Boards with the ob-| ject of endeavoring to secure an amend-! Kent of the Act. !
